My client is the world's leading independent publisher of desktop publishing, design and graphics software with an award-winning range and a reputation for making professional effects and publishing capabilities accessible to ordinary PC users.

They currently have anexciting position available for a testing and validation engineer based in Nottingham. This role is ideal for someone who is already in a technical environment and is looking to progress thier career.

Scope of Position/Core Responsibilities:

Following testing processes and procedures, such as test scripts, to test my clients installs and their content and documenting the results. These installs will potentially be in languages other than English and/or multiple languages. Also the content they include may need testing in a locale specific environment.
Beta acceptance testing of applications and content, ensuring they are ready for customer release.
Attempt to determine the root cause of software problems and find repeatable methods to recreate them.
Proof-reading of software documentation for correctness and usability.
Communicating within the Development department in an accurate and detailed way, particularly the use of internal reporting procedures (for example Jira).
Reporting the progress of work to the Production Supervisor and escalating the importance of such reporting when problems occur.
Accurate time sheet recording.

Skills and Qualities:
Use of VMware or other virtualisation technology
Understanding of Windows Installer technologies, and particularly ORCA.
Proactive and confident with good verbal communication skills
Ability to work on own and within a team environment.
Investigating and problem-solving skills. Determine, as closely as possible, the cause of issues and how to recreate them.
Work to a high standard and to specific deadlines, following written and verbal instructions carefully.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities which may be required:
The archiving of master disks in an organised way.
Testing manufactured CDs are accurately replicated and logging test results.
Testing coverdisk installs.
Maintain JIRA issues to notify Development of issues found in my clients products by employees and beta testers outside of normal beta tests.
Monitoring forums and newsgroups for quality issues.
Sorting crash reports and logging the results for analysis.
Support and enforce company policies, particularly the company's Health and Safety Policy;
oSupport the Company's Health and Safety policy by example
oEnsure risk assessments are carried out within the department
oFollow correct procedures while at work and while on company business
