Job Purpose
To manage the CAD Office functions, responsibilities and resources to provide a world class design service to the business. Taking overall responsibility for the conceptual design of tungsten carbide precision progression press tools utilising Solidworks CAD technology, from an initial customer concept through all stages of development into tool manufacture and build, through to component manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
Management of Design Office people and resources.
Management of Design process improvement.
Deputising for, and supporting, the Technical and Manufacturing Operations Manager.
Production of Design concepts to support an effective estimating process.
Liaisons with Customers to quantify and ensure requirements are met.
Production of a basic tool design conception.
Interface with Toolroom and Customer to finalise design concept.
Utilisation of Solidworks 3D & ME10 2D CAD technology to produce all relevant CAE links, technical drawings and documentation for press tool development and manufacture.
Producing CAM electronic data processing for CNC machines.
Achieving design targets to Customer lead times.
Interface with suppliers to ensure standardisation of parts wherever possible.
Development of a standard parts database.
Ensure that the business conforms to all legislative design standards.
Integrate best practise Health & Safety features into the design standard.
Liaison with Sales & Marketing department to support technical information produced for customer cosat estimates.
To act as the departmental trainer for apprentices and trainees within the Company.
Attend design related meetings as required.
5s Design office champion.
Essential
Precision progression tungsten carbide press tool experience.
HND or equivalent in Manufacturing or Design Engineering.
Proven Leadership qualities keen to develop management skills.
A Technical engineering apprenticeship.
Bench toolmaking experience with progression press tools.
Excellent problem solving and innovation qualities.
Knowledge and experience of Solidworks CAD package.
CAM experience.
Excellent communication skills.
Computer literate MicroSoft Office package.
Numeracy & literacy skills.
