The bitrate does not matter either, it plays every file, no matter what bitrate (as long as it is a bit standard) it is. Since I don't have a Dolby Digital Receiver, I had no use for a dvdplayer that has 5.1 digital output. However, this player does have an optical digital output. If your receiver is Dolby Digital, you can still enjoy the sound of 6 speakers, because it sends the digital signal to your receiver, and lets the receiver decode the signal instead of doing it himself. If you want to buy a great player, buy this one for sure You won't regret it !
